Part A coverage (including coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan) is considered qualifying health coverage. If you have Part A, you can ask Medicare to send you an IRS Form 1095-B. Why did I get a second Form 1095-B with different information?

The federal Affordable Care Act requires that states report Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (such as NC Health Choice) coverage to the IRS, and mail the same information to you on IRS Form 1095-B. In the case of group family coverage, Health Net sends the form to the covered employee on behalf of all the family members. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in its health programs and activities.

Some people covered by employer-sponsored insurance might receive a copy of a similar form, the 1095-C, rather than the 1095-B. This form provides substantially the same information to taxpayers as the 1095-B but it is generated by large employers who have 50 or more full time employees. Depending on how their employers’ coverage is set up, some taxpayers may even receive both tax forms. Form 1095-B is sent to individuals from health insurance providers indicating whether the taxpayer had minimum essential coverage. Form 1095-C might be sent, with or instead of 1095-B, if you had health insurance coverage from an employer with 50 or more employees.

How do I get a copy of my child or tax dependent’s 1095-B tax form?

This form is not required when you file your federal or state 2022 tax return. But, we do suggest that you keep this form with your tax information.
